The Steering Committee for Culture, Heritage and Landscape (CDCPP) has officially adopted a groundbreaking policy document: Guidelines Given the Latest Technological Developments, Such as AI, Complementing Council of Europe Standards in the Fields of Culture, Creativity and Cultural Heritage. These guidelines offer relevant policy measures to support member States in navigating the intersection of AI and cultural heritage while safeguarding human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
KEA’s founder, Philippe Kern, acted as the Council of Europe’s adviser responsible for coordinating the drafting process. His expertise has contributed to shaping a forward-thinking framework that balances AI’s transformative potential with ethical, cultural, and societal considerations.
The guidelines recognize both the opportunities and challenges posed by AI in cultural sectors, from enhanced creative processes to concerns about copyright, authorship, and data ethics. They provide clear, stepwise recommendations to ensure AI fosters inclusive access to culture while respecting artistic integrity.
