Mapping and Analysis of the Specificity of Sport in Europe

Project summary

The study analysed EU rulings and decisions since 2007 regarding the “specificity of sport,” a legal concept defining the inherent characteristics that distinguish sport from other economic and social activities. The study reviewed relevant case law, European Court of Justice rulings, and European Commission decisions, particularly in relation to competition rules, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework governing sport in the EU. The report aimed to inform policymakers, sport stakeholders, and legal experts about the implications of these rulings for sport governance and regulation.
