Impulse paper on the role of cultural and creative sectors in innovating European industry

Project summary

The initiative delivered an impulse paper providing an overview of the contribution of cultural and creative sectors (CCS) to industrial modernisation in the EU. It proposed discussion topics around the role of CCS in shaping future industrial transformation and innovation.The paper contributed to the dialogue with CCS in the context of the renewed Industrial Policy Strategy, building on creative spill-over knowledge and evidence from cross-innovation between industry and cultural/creative sectors. It paid particular attention to emerging technology developments (AI, IoT, etc.) and their social impact.

KEA's contribution

KEA carried out the full scope of the project. This included desk research, a survey of creative entrepreneurs, and developing policy recommendations. KEA synthesised evidence on creative spill-overs, analysed practical cross-sector innovation examples, and highlighted how CCS can foster industrial innovation, particularly in the digital and technological domain.The work supported the European Commission in initiating dialogue with CCS stakeholders and informed the policy discussion on the future of industrial transformation in Europe.
