Moncalieri Dossier CiC

Project summary

KEA has been working alongside the City of Moncalieri to design and deliver its candidacy for Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2028. Together with Professor Pierluigi Sacco (ARTECO), KEA coordinated a year-long participatory pathway that mapped over 250 stakeholders, organised focus groups across six cultural sectors, and launched an open call that generated more than 100 project proposals. KEA supported the creation of the Comitato Giovani, giving young people a structural role in shaping the bid, and facilitated the alliance of 13 municipalities of the Turin metropolitan area around Moncalieri’s vision. Through this project, KEA applied its expertise in cultural policy, territorial cooperation and participatory design to help Moncalieri transform its ambition into a coherent dossier, rooted in local identity yet resonating with broader European cultural agendas such as SDGs and NEB.

KEA's contribution

KEA contributed to defining the candidacy’s five thematic pillars (design, urban regeneration and commons, youth empowerment, gender equality, and culture as social innovation) and to structuring the cultural programme of 2028. This emerged from an intense year of engagement with the local community and cultural practitioners, through focus groups and projects co-creation guided by our team. The result is a shared strategy that redefines the relationship between centre and periphery, positioning Moncalieri as the driver of a metropolitan cultural network.
